Certified Personal Trainer

Position Summary:
Responsible for providing excellent and safe instruction, motivation, and support to participants.

Essential Functions:

  • Prepares personalized programs in accordance with YMCA guidelines
  • Provides positive and regular feedback to participants
  • Directs questions requiring additional expertise or attention to the supervisor
  • Finds substitutes according to set procedures
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and sanitary environment.
  • Communicates and enforces any wellness center rules at participants’ comprehension level.
  • Trains participants in a manner that is both demonstrative and professional.
  • Watches and corrects participants when exercising in an unsafe manner.
  • Educates members on appropriate and comfortable attire for exercising.
  • Develops positive relationships with members and provides motivational support and guidance.
  • Exemplifies a healthy lifestyle.
  • Inspects all equipment used for safety hazards, damage, or wear.
  • Communicates to the direct supervisor any concerns or incidents that may need follow-up.

Core Expectations:

  • Knows and administers the appropriate EAP (emergency action plan) for any situation, including first aid or CPR, work-related employee injuries, etc.
  • Completes incident and accident reports as required.
  • Is courteous and gives sincere attention to members by answering questions and providing positive and regular feedback to program participants.
  • Knows the names of members and uses their names when speaking with them.
  • Maintains appropriate certifications and records.
  • Carries out other duties as assigned by the Progam and Wellness Director

Qualifications:
Education and Certifications

  • Must be 18 years of age. High school diploma or GED required.
  • A 2-year college degree in Physical Education/Exercise Science/related field or applicable experience is preferred.
  • Personal Training Certificate. Need to be certified by a nationally recognized certification agency (ASCM, NASM, ACE etc.), as approved by the Lakota Family YMCA.

Experience

  • Minimum of six months or more of related fitness experience preferred and a high level of interest in the fitness field.

FIT Desk Staff

Must be able to work two-three days a week between the hours of 2pm-10pm M-TH and on weekends/Holidays.

Key Job Requirements:

  • Minimum 16 years of age
  • Exhibits an outgoing and enthusiastic personality at all times.
  • Greets all members in a professional and friendly manner, using their names whenever possible, and offering to assist them with work out needs.
  • Regularly circulates the Wellness Center to actively and purposefully interact with and engage members.
  • Able to assist with Tiny Tot Sports (practices and scrimmages)
  • Understands the basic components of a safe and effective exercise program.
  • Listens to and responds appropriately to the needs of Wellness Center members.
  • Follows all YMCA policies and procedures and enforces all policies and guidelines of the Wellness Center.
  • Ensures the cleanliness and maintenance of all Wellness Center equipment. Reports any damaged or broken equipment to the Wellness Director
  • Reliable transportation
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills and must be able to meet the physical demands of the position
  • Able to work well independently as well as with a team

Spin Instructor

We are seeking a high-energy Spin Instructor to lead fun and effective indoor cycling classes for participants of all fitness levels.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead safe, motivating, and engaging spin classes.
  • Assist participants with bike setup and proper form.
  • Create a positive, welcoming environment.
  • Arrive prepared with music and workout plans.

Qualifications:

  • Must hold a Group Exercise Certification.
  • Willing to obtain/maintain CPR certification.
  • Prior spin instruction experiences preferred but not required.
  • Energetic, reliable, and passionate about fitness.

Schedule:
Part-time, based on class needs.

Group Fitness Instructor

We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated Group Fitness Instructors to lead fun, safe, and effective fitness classes for participants of all ages and abilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead engaging group fitness classes.
  • Provide proper instruction, modifications, and encouragement to participants.
  • Ensure a safe and positive workout environment.
  • Arrive prepared with music, workouts, and equipment set up.

Qualifications:

  • Must hold a current Group Exercise Certification or Equivalent.
  • Willing to obtain/maintain CPR certification.
  • Previous group fitness teaching experience preferred.
  • Energetic, dependable, and passionate about helping others improve their health.

Schedule:
Part-time, class times vary.
